Our office is in the Community Hub on Bold Street. Currently we have an administrator and two part-time development workers. We are funded by Area Based Grants through Bolton Council, and are associated with Greater Manchester Industrial Mission. Project development workers focus on 3 key areas - education&youth, leisure, and the workplace. These have each been identified as the spheres where people from different communities interact on a regular basis.
Examples of our activity and involvement:-
Education&Youth: East Bolton Funday - local churches and council, police, local youth agencies providing a free family funday for the diverse communities in East Bolton. A great way of reducing social barriers between individuals and communities and inceasing understanding and a sense of belonging
Leisure: The conception and preparations for a 'night cafe' to serve the night-time economy, addressing issues of safety, anti social behaviour, and alcohol related incidents. A pilot has een running since July and will contribute to overall satisfaction in the local area as well as making the night time town centre a safer place.
Workplace: Supporting chaplaincies in Hospitals, the University and the Town centre, which provide multi-faceted support and access to staff, students, customers, visitors and patients from the entire Bolton community, regardless of faith or the absence of faith. Outcomes are, amongst others, contributions to overall satisfaction and a sense of belonging and mixing together.
